See you all there for the party

PDG Lion Sid Davey. 4/1/1922 - 22/12/2014 RIP

Our dear friend PDG Lion Sid Davey passed away on 22 December 2014, just shy of his 93rd birthday. Sid’s achievements within Lions are legendary, in 2014 he received a commendation from the International President for 60 years of service to his community through Lions. As well as serving Taree Lions in all Executive positions Sid spent a term as District Governor. Sid was a W. Treisise Fellow and was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship.

Sid served during WWII as a Leading Seaman and was represented at his funeral by the RSL and the Masonic Lodge. Members of Taree Lions formed a Guard of Honour and acted as Pall Bearers. Both Sid and his wife of over 60 years, Joy, have been awarded Citizen of The Year honours.

Sid, you will surely be missed RIP.

  • Chocolate Wheel

Our annual Chocolate Wheel ham raffles are over and as usual we made a handsome profit. Thanks to Allen Lenton and all those involved.

  • 60th Anniversary success

Over 100 guests attended our 60th at Club Taree on the 27th and everyone had a great time. It was generally agreed that this was the most enjoyable function we have conducted for some time.

Even the Vegetarians among us enjoyed the food and the venue served our purpose well. Thanks to Yogi Weller (MC extraordinaire) and Brian Lambert and the boys in the band for keeping us entertained. Also to our official guests who did their homework in regard to Lions history and activities.

Special mention must go to Past Presidents and their partners, Ron & Rita Day, Tony & Auriol Hopkins, Bill & Jan Howard, Lyle Handebo, Dick Clark and Spencer Davis who made the efort to join us.

  • ALF National Drought Relief Appeal Extended to end of September 2018

The Australian Lions Foundation (ALF) National Drought Relief Appeal Extended to end of September 2018.

See attachment below for more details.

    Attachment: alf_drought_appeal_extended.pdf

    23 August 2018

    Dear Lion President

As you are aware, over the past few weeks, two Appeals for funds are being held in our District to provide assistance to those deeply affected by the drought.

The Appeal being conducted by District Cabinet has received wonderful support, and our Cabinet Treasuer is currently holding about $30,000 with more arriving daily.

Another Appeal is being conducted nationwide, by The Australian Lions Foundation (ALF). At this stage, are not aware in monetary terms, what has been received, but we understand that response has been magnificent.

When the ALF Appeal concludes at the end of August, ALF will disperse collected funds to DG’s in affected areas. It is my intention that ALL funds received, both District and ALF, will be used to assist PEOPLE IN NEED. The provision of stock feed and support of farm needs is being managed magnificently by groups such as NEED FOR FEED (A project of the Lions Club of Packerham) and others.

To find PEOPLE IN NEED, we are enlisting the help of all Lions Clubs in Regions 4, 5 & 6 to assist in identifying those desperately requiring help.

We have forwarded each of these Clubs the attached Drought Relief Need Application form. We have asked Clubs using their local network of Lions members, members families, community groups, service and sporting clubs, GP’s, Bank Managers, Police etc.and to identify those in their area that require our help.

All clubs are free to copy the application form (see attachment below) and submit as many applications as you deem necessary. Completed Application is to be returned to me at 146/1 Greenmeadows Drive Port Macquarie NSW 2444 by no later than 21st September 2018.

We are mindful that initial thoughts go out to those on the land, but there are many others in residential areas, that due to their business or to their connection to the land, may also need our help.

This letter is being sent to all Clubs in Regions 1, 2 & 3 to keep them “in the loop” of how Appeal money will be distributed.

Although the whole of NSW has been declared a drought area, thankfully at this stage, the coastal areas within our District, are generally not as badly affected by the drought as our brothers and sisters on the western side of the range, however if you are aware of any persons who are affected by the drought, please do not hesitate to submit an application seeking assistance.

    David Emanual
    District Governor 2018-2019
